USB/2-track is single directional (either input or output your choice) No on/off switch or integrated power supply Would recommend this to noobs and people looking for cheap alternative to having more inputs. Not very stable on a table top setup, must be fixated using creativity/other equipment Perfect amount of inputs (2 mic/line and 2 stereo/mono inputs) capable of accommodating 4 instruments of all kinds. I haven't used it via USB so i'm not sure if it supports multi-mix for your DAW via individual channels. Sad that they did not think of this when making it.Īll in all a great bang for the buck, if you're looking for extra inputs to your 2i2 setup (like i was) to plug a little more instruments and jam at the same time. This can be solved easily with velcro or rubber stoppers stuck to it. This was a little annoying when someone accidentally stretches the cable plugged in, if not taken to account, it will easily slide over. The first downside i found was that is does not have rubber fits on the bottom for grip on your table top. The mic channels also have a compressor, not great but definitely useful when jamming with multiple instruments. ![]() It does offer USB connectivity if you would like to use it as a sound card itself. It's compact size is awesome for fitting it in your backpack and going for jam sessions, the size does come at a cost though, instead of faders for the channels you have level knobs which is okay but a little less accurate that faders. It does offer 48v phantom power, which is rare in the price category. ![]() The mic preamps seem fine for what you pay for, i still would rather use my sound card when recording. I'v had this mixer a few days in already, i have it connected to my sound card via stereo (irrelevant: my sound card is also Behringer, the 204HD model).įirst thing i want to highlight is don't expect to compare this to mixers in the 400-500? range, it's a cheap product for beginners/intermediate users. ![]() This story does have a happy ending, however. ‘The enormity of it hit me and I just couldn’t cope’. I realized the trauma, the effect that it had on my wife and my girls,’ he said. ‘I spent my days in Stephen’s Green sitting on a park bench watching my past life roll in and I was in pieces. John explained that while his memory came back, all the glitters were not gold, and he became guilty over what had happened and the emotional toll his amnesia had on his ex-wife and their two daughters. It was like an electric current again or something and I just, I ran away. ‘But when started to come back and sort of started to roll in, it was like another shock to my system. Not yesterday, but to me, it was all just one.’ ‘I could see you and I’d remember you, but that would be 10 years ago or another part would be five years. ‘Around July 1995, I used to get flashbacks, but there would be no linear time to it,’ he told Ryan. John lived with amnesia until July 1995, when, two years after developing memory loss, and four years after the horrifying robbery that he went through, his memory finally started to come back, albeit not chronologically. ‘But then somebody might mention a word or something and I stopped because I didn’t know what when I tuned back into the conversation that was gone and I was just back to being in the moment and friends’. ‘… in most general conversations, people usually talk about something that happened maybe six or eight weeks in the past - like what happened on the news or what happened or where they were going’, John explained. ![]() I just got to relearn my life” ‘And I was like a sponge’, John said.Īfter seeing a psychologist who gave him the tools to re-learn everything and ‘keep him grounded’, John explained that he was able to adapt incredibly quickly in everyday conversation, with some exceptions. When I finally settled down and got my head around it decided that “okay, there’s nothing I can do. ‘And so I had to live my life one day at a time. ‘My heart was empty… in the later part of, I would have to grip on to people to try and get a feeling in there. His immediate family and partner Tony spent the next two years helping him re-learn everything, including his relationships. It was all alien to me.’Īfter his ex-wife found him in the hospital, she was told by the doctors that in order to jog his memory, John would have to move back into the family home. ‘I was really scared… the nurses told me that it would only take a few seconds which felt like an eternity. John explained his harrowing ordeal in the immediate aftermath of his diagnosis, which included going for an unfamiliar MRI scan. John suffered from amnesia for a period of two years, during which he forgot that he was separated from his wife, and was living with a new male partner. I couldn’t figure out what my name was.’ © Provided by Extra.ie ‘And it was only when the nurse asked me for my name that I realized I didn’t know my name. ‘I sort of had to go through, talking about a possible mugging… ‘I was put in front of the reception, a nurse was there, and a Garda followed me in,’ John explained. The couple drove John to the hospital, where doctors found that he had amnesia. John explained to Ryan that ‘sometime between 7pm and 2am, found semi-conscious in the street by a Chinese couple that were driving by’. It was there that he told Ryan Tubridy that he couldn’t remember his own name when he was asked, and he developed amnesia. John was found semi-conscious on the street, and was taken to hospital. He then had a phone call with his ex-wife, in what he called ‘the last with memory phone call I had for two years’. However, two years later in February of 1993, John was out for brunch with some friends. He was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and had to attend therapy for 18 months after the incident. While the robbers didn’t make off with any money - the wages had already been handed out - John suffered terribly in the aftermath of the incident. ‘ went to the financial director and was banging her head off the desk, asking “where was the money?” because the wages had just been delivered,’ John explained. The ordeal ended up being a catalyst for him developing amnesia. John Coleman was robbed at gunpoint by two men while he was working as a builder. While John attempted to quell the situation with the man armed with a handgun, his accomplice dragged John into the Managing Director’s office. ‘I thought it was my own guys having an argument’, he told Ryan Tubridy.īut it turns out that two men, armed with a handgun and a sawed-off shotgun, were attempting to rob the receptionists. John Coleman was building new offices in 1991 when he heard a commotion in the reception area of the building. A man has described how he didn’t know his own name, the fact that he was separated, or that he was living with a new male partner after suffering amnesia from a horror robbery. GSC has made an effort to distinguish them with unique structures and units but ultimately differences are fairly superficial, especially when compared to the differences between the civs in the original AC (there you could play as various European powers or Native American tribes). There's nothing startlingly original about the blend of building, farming, mining, researching, and fighting on offer, but games have that pleasing momentum that helped make classic like Age of Kings so moreish.įour factions (Union, Confederacy, Texas, Mexico) are playable. A highly customisable random-map skirmish mode provides an opportunity to engage in the traditional RTS economic activity that's largely left out of the campaigns and single missions. Random acts of kindness Recognise pixel 556, 344? Yes it's Davy Crockett.Īs a wargame Divided Nation isn't much cop. ![]() In more mobile battles however, they fail to take full advantage of the various available formations or exploit obvious gaps in your lines. They understand that, in defence, it's wise to sit tight in trenches and treelines until the attackers arrive. Regrettably you cant so you end-up trusting luck and weight of numbers a lot of the time.įortunately enemy commanders are no Bill Tecumseh Shermans or Robert E. If you could tell at a glance which formations were losing their bottle then things wouldn't be so bad. Today, combined with the management problems caused by that useless camera, the tendency of troops to run just seems annoying. I remember enjoying this unusual bit of realism at the time. Eventually you'd find yourself looking-on helplessly as half your lily-livered army legged-it for the metaphorical hills (ridiculously there aren't any real hills in the game). Flank attacks, the death of comrades, the loss of colours, it would all chip away at experience-related morale. ![]() GSC went to a lot of trouble to endow their minute troopers with a sense of self-preservation. One of the draws of the original American Conquest was the subtlety of its combat modelling. The constant camera yo-yoing and mini-map jumps sap most of the spectacle from what should be the game's primary attraction, its colossal set-piece battles. This might sound like a nit-pick, but really it isn't. Zoomed-out and you can barely see your soldiers, let alone recognise what type they are or what formations they're arranged in. Zoomed-in it's so close to the ground that you're lucky if you can see five percent of an average army. The lack of rotation isn't a major inconvenience, but the two-step zoom is a royal pain in the arse. The game features one of the most primitive cameras imaginable. My first few hours with Divided Nation were spent instinctively stroking the mouse wheel and depressing the right mouse button. Rancid camera A Union attempt to frighten the Rebels with giant pencils fails dismally. Linear and set mostly against the background of the American Civil War (two recreate the spat between the Texans and the Mexicans in 1836) they are reasonably diverting if you can put up with the annoyances associated with of the ancient game engine. There's very little here to catch the eye of a modern strategy gamer, although diehard American Conquest fans might wring some pleasure from the nine new campaigns. ![]() Divided Nation is in fact an unimaginative dollop of new scenarios and units for a game that definitely should have been euthanized a couple of years ago. Now I've actually played the thing, I can see that my judgement is failing me in old age. The reason I wasn't going to buy Divided Nation was that I suspected it was going to be nothing more than an unimaginative dollop of new scenarios and units for a game that probably should have been euthanized a couple of years ago. AC wasn't a bad way to spend a wet winter weekend (basically it was Age of Empires II with wigwams, colonists and loads of military detail) but I skipped the Fight Back add-on that came six months later, and would, to be honest, have skipped this standalone expansion too, had a complimentary copy not been delivered to my door by one of Eurogamer's winged monkeys. The game was either Nival's Blitzkrieg or this game's grandpa, American Conquest. Hard to remember, isn't it? Me, I think my last pre-polygonal RTS must have been purchased around three years ago. When was the last time you bought an isometric RTS and what was the game? ![]()
